Segunda Quimbamba Folkloric Center is a Jersey City, NJ based 501 C 3 nonprofit cultural arts organization that celebrates the Puerto Rican Folkloric drum music Bomba and Plena through education and live-performance.
Segunda Quimbamba is a Jersey City-based percussion and dance ensemble that performs authentic Bomba and Plena, the drum music of Puerto Rico. The ensemble was founded by director Juan Cartagena and his wife Nanette Hernandez as Los Pleneros de la Segunda (The Pleneros from Second Street) in 1989 during the Christmas season to preserve the Puerto Rican tradition of caroling called parrandas.
Learn Afro-Puerto Rican folkloric music with our dance and drum classes for La Bomba y La Plena! We’ve been teaching the rich cultural folkloric music in Jersey City for 20 years. It’s open for both kids (7 and older) and adults, so bring your family and friends.

Shehnaaz Dance Academy (SDA) is a New Jersey based Performing Arts & Cultural School, born out of our love for teaching and a passion for dance. SDA offers a variety of dance classes catering to different genres of dance namely Indian traditional and folk dance forms, Hip Hop, Contemporary and Bollywood.
