The Nimbus Youth Ensemble is an elite performance ensemble that offers Pre-Professional students the opportunity to work with professional choreographers in a diverse repertory. Placement in the Nimbus Youth Ensemble develops each ensemble members' artistic and technical range and skill through the rigor of the program. 


The Nimbus Youth Ensemble performs the role of Waltz of the Hipsters in our Jersey City Nutcracker, performs throughout the region at public events and performances, local schools, hospitals, senior centers and at The School of Nimbus Showcase. Acceptance into NYE is by audition only and students must be members of the Pre-Professional program to be a member of NYE. Rehearsals for NYE are throughout the academic year.

*All students accepted into the Nimbus Youth Ensemble are automatically enrolled in the Pre-Professional Program*

Graduates of The Nimbus Youth Ensemble have gone on to study at renowned university dance programs as well as competitive local high school dance programs.

Pre-Professional Program

The School of Nimbus offers a rigorous Pre-Professional program designed for advanced students ages 13-18. Nimbus’ Pre-Professional students receive a high quality dance education and professional performance opportunities, in preparation for a career or continued education in dance. The Pre-Professional program performs the role of Gente De La Fiesta (Spanish) in our Jersey City Nutcracker, throughout Jersey City in public performances and at the School of Nimbus Dance Spring Showcase. Acceptance into the Pre-Professional program is by audition.

Students in the Pre-Professional program are required to participate in the following:

  • Seven required technique classes per week (listed below)

  • Two required rehearsal per week

  • Monthly masterclasses with leaders in the professional industry

  • Professional Seminars on self-development, time management, college prep, team-building, injury prevention and auditioning.

  • 20 hours of Work Study at the Nimbus Arts Center per semester

  • Eligible for acceptance into the Nimbus Youth Ensemble

  • Tuesday 4:15p Ensemble Company Class

  • Tuesday Modern V or Friday Modern IV

  • Wednesday 5:40p Ballet IV/V

  • Saturday 3:00p Nimbus Rep & Improvisation

  • Any Additional Level IV or V classes of your choice

Junior Youth Ensemble

The Junior Youth Ensemble (JYE) explores increasingly challenging repertory, works intensively with professional choreographers, and develops tight bonds with a core group of motivated peers. JYE member must be 9-12 years of age. 

Participants can expect to make significant progress in dance technique and performance skills – and have a lot of fun! The JYE performs the role of the Red Ribbon Calligraphy (Chinese) in our Jersey City Nutcracker, throughout Jersey City in public performances and at the School of Nimbus Dance Spring Showcase. Admission to the Junior Youth Ensemble is by audition.

Students in the Junior Youth Ensemble are required to participate in the following:

  • A minimum of 5 required technique classes per week (listed below)

  • Two required rehearsal per week

  • Monthly masterclasses with leaders in the professional industry

  • Public and professional performances throughout Jersey City

Junior Youth Ensemble Required Schedule
