More About Shehnaaz Jagasia:

Founder & Creative Director at Shehnaaz Dance Academy

Shehnaaz Jagasia, a geneticist by profession, chose to pursue her passion for dance in 2009. The joy she found from teaching children combined with her love for dance drove her to start teaching dance as a hobby in 2012. Shehnaaz is a trained dancer in Classical Dance form of Bharatnatyam (Dr. Swaminathan). She has learnt other dance forms (like Jazz, Salsa, Cha Cha Cha) from the Shiamak Davar Institute of Performing Arts. She has participated in several stage shows and has been an integral part of choreographed dances since the early age of 3. She has performed at several stage shows and conducted numerous workshops while also dancing in umpteen stage shows in India during her formative years. After seeing the lack of a structured dance program for Indian cultural, Classical and Folk dance forms in Jersey City, Shehnaaz decided to create a niche for South Asian Performing Arts and artists by establishing Shehnaaz Dance Academy (SDA) in 2017. Over the past 5 years, Shehnaaz and SDA have introduced an Indian Dance Program at several studios in NJ and at least 10 schools in the NJ school system as a sought after enrichment program for students of all ages. SDA now offers Indian Classical Music as well as Cultural Exploration lessons to our students while continuing to create a variety of programs to encourage learning, exposure to the arts and awareness about various cultures and educational programs. Our mission is to instill a love of dance, inspire self-confidence, discipline, harmony and respect for the arts and all culture. We create a nurturing and accepting environment to allow students to blossom and discover their passion for the arts.
